Designer Matt Tsang<\/strong> helped the couple create an open kitchen that now includes an eye-catching backsplash, natural elements and mixed metals for warmth and depth.<\/p>\n

The updated color palette includes light gray walls<\/strong>, a white ceiling<\/strong> and a beautiful tile backsplash<\/strong> in a soft sea-glass hue<\/strong>. The base of the island has a rich gray color that helps anchor the room.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe brass knobs<\/strong> added a glam warmth to the space, and they work perfectly with the backsplash,\u201d Tsang<\/strong> says. \u201cAdding that detail helps the room avoid feeling flat with all those cabinets on the back wall.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tsang<\/strong> demolished the previous kitchen, pantry and laundry area to create a more efficient floor plan. Removing the old peninsula and pony wall allowed him to extend the kitchen to the former breakfast nook and open it more to the living room<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The updated living room\u2019s style is transitional, with two brown leather club chairs, a gray sofa, a brass coffee table with oval frame and claw feet, and a handwoven gray area rug. \u201cIt\u2019s such an open concept, the spaces had to really play off one another,\u201d Tsang says. \u201cThey\u2019re now truly the heart of the home<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n
